IL MISSES FIRST PAYMENT TO SCHOOLS

State Comptroller Susana Mendoza sent $429 million in overdue payments to Illinois school districts Thursday in an effort to provide them with some cash instead of missing the first batch of regularly scheduled payments altogether. The state has yet to finalize its plan for divvying up educational funding, so Mendoza sent “categorical” payments that cover costs for bus transportation, special education and other services.
