After 24 years, the Chicago Tribune’s Editorial Board is once again backing NAFTA, saying the agreement is absolutely crucial for the Midwest. “NAFTA supports a wealth of jobs and opportunity in the American heartland, just as expected when it was being negotiated by a Republican president, George H.W. Bush, and his Democratic successor, Bill Clinton. When the president who wrote ‘The Art of the Deal’ gets serious about improving the accord, we hope he’ll make sure not to give up those gains,” said the board.
