HOUSE PASSES TAX HIKE, SPENDING PLAN

The Illinois House Sunday approved a major income tax hike and spending plan, as more than a dozen Republicans broke with Gov. Bruce Rauner and voted in favor of the legislation. The measure, which needed 71 votes to pass and received 72, increased the personal income tax from 3.75% to 4.95%. Rauner already has pledged to veto the plan without accompanying business-friendly reforms. (Chicago Tribune)
