U.S. FARMS ADD MORE FOREIGN WORKERS

U.S. farms are bringing in more foreign-born guest workers to plant and harvest the country’s crops under the H-2A visa program. In the first three months of 2017, the Department of Labor approved applications to fill 69,272 farm jobs with foreign guest workers, up from 50,887 jobs OK’d during the same period last year. The H-2A visa program has grown steadily in recent years because farmers have had trouble recruiting enough workers here in the U.S. (NPR’s The Salt)
