#Illinois #Plant17 Progress – May 21

Corn planting reached 89% across the state for the week ending May 21, with 67% emerged, compared to 75% last year and the 5-year average of 69%. Replanting started in some areas of the state. Corn condition was rated at 3% very poor, 12% poor, 34% fair, 44 % good, and 7% excellent.

Soybeans planted progressed to 48%, with 18% emerged.

There were 4.0 days suitable for fieldwork during the week. Statewide, the average temperature was 67.7 degrees, 3.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.61 inches, 0.73 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% short, 64% adequate, and 35% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1% short, 71% adequate, and 28% surplus.

Winter wheat headed reached 94%. Winter wheat condition was rated 11% very poor, 16% poor, 29% fair, 37% good, and 7% excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated at 3% poor, 16% fair, 55% good, and 26% excellent.
