Dust storms across Central Illinois Wednesday led to risky conditions, road closures, traffic accidents and power outages. Meteorologist Ed Shimon said dust storms are rare in Central Illinois, but Wednesday’s weather created near-perfect conditions: “The timing of dry weather with strong winds and just recently planted fields with a top layer of fine, ground-up earth; it all set the stage for a day like today.” (Herald & Review)
