LAW, TRADITION, REALITY INFLUENCE STATE’S BUDGET

As the state continues its second fiscal year without a 12-month budget, Illinois faces continual growth in unpaid bills. If there is no budget before the next general election, the state could owe an estimated $25 billion to $27 billion in unpaid bills. The General Assembly is scheduled to adjourn May 31; after that, each chamber would need a supermajority to pass a budget. (FarmWeekNow.com)
