LAWSUIT DISMISSAL WON’T LESSEN PRESSURE

Officials and farmers won’t let the dismissal of the Des Moines Water Works’ lawsuit alleging high nitrate levels from three northern Iowa counties lessen the pressure on farmers to ramp up and implement nutrient stewardship practices. Despite the utility’s contention that farmers now have no incentive to implement voluntary measures, Iowa Ag Secretary Bill Northey says work to clean Iowa’s waterways will continue unchanged.
