It’s hard to say USDA’s final 2016 crop production estimates fell short of expectations when corn and soybean output set new records. But that’s exactly what happened. USDA trimmed its production estimates, but the final national crop-output estimates still set records at 4.307 billion bushels of beans (with a national average yield of 52.1 bushels per acre) and 15.148 billion bushels of corn (with a national yield of 174.6 bushels per acre).
