U.S. dairy farmers are dumping tens of millions of gallons of excess milk due to an overabundance of dairy products and low market prices. Plunging milk prices, which have dropped 36% since 2014, mean that the cost of production dwarfs the price of milk, leaving many farmers unable to afford the cost of shipping their raw milk. According to data from the USDA, more than 43 million gallons of milk were dumped in the first eight months of 2016. (Wall Street Journal)
