BIG MERGERS MEAN BIG AG IS GETTING BIGGER

The prospect of fewer, larger companies controlling so much of the U.S. seed and chemical inventory is raising more red flags than hopes. Farmers and anti-trust activists are voicing their concerns about the recent mergers including Monsanto-Bayer and Syngenta-ChemChina, saying the deals have the potential to further increase input costs. But the companies pairing up say the mergers will give them an edge in research and will help them bring new products to the market faster. (NPR’s The Salt)
