Cattlemen in Western feedlots are using new ‘smart’ ear tags to monitor movements and feeding patterns of cattle in an effort to track early signs of sickness. With low cattle prices pinching ranchers’ profits, developers of the new tags believe they can save feedlots money on drugs like antibiotics and avoid treating healthy cattle. (Wall Street Journal)
