2015 was the worst year for American newspapers since the recession in 2008. Average weekday newspaper circulation fell 7 percent in 2015 and advertising revenue experienced its greatest drop since 2009. Overall, the industry continues to shrink with 126 fewer daily papers in 2014 than in 2004. Still, print remains a vital part of newspapers’ distribution with 51 percent of those who read a newspaper consuming it exclusively in print, a new Pew Research Center study says.
