As lawmakers return to Springfield on Wednesday for the first time since adjourning May 31, Democrats and Republicans say they’re close to a stopgap budget deal which will help keep Illinois afloat through December. However, the two sides still appear to be far apart when it comes to a funding plan for elementary and secondary education for the coming school year. (Pantagraph)
