Despite its cold climate, Canada exports more tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers to the U.S. than the other way around. According to NPR’s The Salt, Canada has the biggest concentration of greenhouses in North America, with Canada leading the way in introducing new kinds of tomatoes and other produce. Though the greenhouse produce is still more expensive to grow, the trend is gaining traction in the states, where American growers are trying to go after the high-end tomato market.
