American farmers who expanded their operations while prices were high a few years ago are now struggling to repay those loans. Lenders are cutting back on loans that aren’t backed by land, leading more farmers to tap into a USDA operating loan program designed to be the lender of last resort. Falling commodity prices but stable rent prices have contributed to the credit crunch,  according to Bloomberg.
