SHRINKING CITIES

Over the past year, 23 of Illinois’ top 29 cities have lost population. Among downstate cities, only Champaign saw a population increase, up 1.5%. Decatur saw the largest percentage loss in population, down 1.1%, followed by Peoria, Bloomington-Normal, and Rockford, all down 0.6%.  States surrounding Illinois did not see significant losses, the Census Bureau says.
