Nearly 300 people attended a public meeting Monday night in Manteno to discuss a proposed 278-mile Great Lakes Basin Railroad line that would loop around the Chicago region into Indiana and Wisconsin. This was the first of 11 environmental review meetings by the federal Surface Transportation Board. Farm Bureau is opposing the project. “At this point, we have a lot of concerns,” said Kankakee County Farm Bureau Director Chad Miller, as reported by the Kankakee Daily Journal.
