Local FFA members learned about opportunities in agriculture at McLean County Farm Bureau’s Acquaintance Day on Jan. 21.

About 70 students from eight local high schools attended the event. The annual program is designed to provide fun, hands-on learning experiences.

Superintendent of Tri-Valley Schools, Dr. David Mouser, kicked off the day with an entertaining address encouraging students to take advantage of opportunities, have faith in themselves and make a positive impact.

FFA members had the chance to meet students from other schools during the team building and ag career exploration activities.

Participants also had the opportunity to drive a tractor or combine provided by Birkey’s Farm Store.

After lunch, Lee County farmer, Katie Pratt, encouraged students to build something – build character, build teams and build up other people. Pratt recently served as one of the ‘Faces of Farming and Ranching’ for the U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance.

Students rounded out the day by competing in the FFA Commodity Cash Crash trivia game and Minute to Win It Farm Edition challenges, lead by ISU Collegiate Farm Bureau members.
