The U.S. Senate voted 65-33 Friday on a package of spending and tax bills that will keep the federal government operating through the end of next September. Important provisions for agriculture: the legislation makes permanent the Section 179 small business expensing option and repeals mandatory country of origin labelling for beef and pork preventing $1 billion in retaliatory tariffs that the WTO approved on imposed on U.S. exports to Canada and Mexico.

Both Senator Durbin and Senator Kirk voted for the agreement which now moves to the White House for the President’s signature.
