2015 Golden Clovers Honored

Five dedicated supporters of 4-H and the McLean County Fair received recognition as 2015 Golden Clover Award winners.

Eileen Wagner was as honored as a Golden Clover for her work with 4-H as an assistant leader and then leader of the Heyworth Happy Hornets 4-H club for more than 15 years. She also served on several committees and in several director positions in the home economics area for the McLean County Fair.

Merrill Orns received a Golden Clover for more than 30 years as a 4-H and fair volunteer. He worked with the crops projects, serving as crops superintendent for many years and helped 4-H members with their test plots.

Ron Birky was honored as the 2015 Emerald Clover for his contributions as a 4-H leader for the Hudson Ag Club. He was also instramental in implementing the aerospace program including establishing the rocket launch held annually at the county fair.

The Emerald Clover is presented posthumously to a fair or 4-H volunteer who did not previously receive a Golden Clover.

Steve and Kathy Schwoerer were honored as Special Clover recipients.

Steve served as the animal systems coordinator for Extension both full and part time over a 20-year period. He helped 4-H members with weighing & tattoing animals as well as implementing changes to improve the animal shows at the fair.

Kathy Schwoerer worked part time at Extension facilitating the fair entry process and putting together the McLean County fairbook.

The Special Clover recognizes past Fair or Extension staff members.

The Golden Clover awards were presented Aug. 5 during the Royalty Contest by McLean County Farm Bureau President, Fred Grieder.
